Why doki Client is a Minecraft launcher built in Rust
Built in Rust.
doki Client is built in Rust with Tauri 2, not Electron. It doesn't carry its own copy of a web browser, so it starts fast, stays light, and leaves your PC's memory for Minecraft. Made in India, built in Rust.
What does built in Rust mean?
Three parts, and why each one matters to a launcher.
- Rust
- A programming language that compiles to native code, has no garbage collector, and catches whole classes of memory bugs before the program ever runs.
- Tauri 2
- The app shell. The interface is drawn by the web view your system already has, WebView2 on Windows and WebKitGTK on Linux, instead of one bundled with the app.
- Not Electron
- Electron apps ship their own copy of the Chromium browser and Node.js inside every app, and run them beside whatever they're for. doki doesn't.
What do you get from it?
Mostly, a launcher you stop noticing.
- A smaller download
- No browser inside the installer, so there's less to download on a slow connection.
- Starts fast
- Native code, opening straight to your instances.
- Room for the game
- A launcher without its own browser leaves more memory for Minecraft, which matters most on a 4 GB PC.
- Careful with files
- Parallel downloads, hash checks on every file and encrypted account storage are all written in Rust.
- Out of the way
- doki can sit in the system tray while you play, and Lite mode turns its own effects down on older machines.
Does a Rust launcher make Minecraft faster?
Not the game itself, and it's worth being straight about it.
- The game is Java
- Minecraft: Java Edition runs on Java whichever launcher starts it. No launcher changes how fast the game itself is.
- The PC around it
- What a lighter launcher changes is how much of your PC is left for the game. Less memory and CPU spent on the launcher means more for Minecraft.
- The settings it picks
- doki picks the right Java, sizes memory for your PC and offers a Low-end JVM profile, which is where real smoothness comes from.
Why build it this way in India?
Because of the PCs and connections most players here actually have.
- Family laptops
- A launcher that doesn't eat memory matters most on the shared 4 GB laptop.
- Connections that drop
- A smaller download, parallel file downloads and a mirror when official servers are slow.
- Old PCs on Linux
- The same native app on Windows and Linux, with AppImage, DEB and RPM packages.
